Highlights of New Variable Annuity Fund Filings in October, 2008
In October, we tracked 14 new fund filings from nine companies. Global, fixed income and money market were the leading categories; there were four global funds, four fixed income and three money market funds registered. The investment trend toward global and fixed income offerings has continued strongly during economic troubles, underscoring a commitment to provide products that diversify assets abroad and offer more stable earnings potential. However, note that the three new money market funds and a number of money fund-related changes (many announcing participation in the federal money fund guarantee program) are more strictly signs of the times.
